Large data center locations have been proposed south of Rockford Airport, on the east side of Cherry Valley along US Bypass 20, and in DeKalb south of the ChicagoWest Business Center. Monarch Energy is planning a $12 billion data center development south of the Chicago Rockford International Airport. The plan for the facility is on Monarch’s website.
Microsoft proposed the Cherry Valley data center in August 2024, and the company has indicated that construction is still in the planning stage. Edged, a subsidiary of Endeavor Energy, has received City of DeKalb approval for a 560-acre data center project code-named Project Vector. Rochelle has also reported that it is considering data centers.
